Girl Scouts and Colorado Credit Union Launch the New
Junior Financial Counselor Patch
Colorado Credit Union and Girl Scouts of Colorado collaborated to develop The Junior Financial Counselor Patch Program, where Girl Scouts across the state have access to financial literacy and leadership development.
At two fantastic events – one held at the DreamLab in Denver and the other in Grand Junction – a total of 60 Girl Scouts earned their Junior Financial Counselor Patch! These Girl Scouts were curious and committed to learning as they dove into activities that helped them build key financial skills such as creating a budget, prioritizing purchases, and evaluating cost versus quality when making spending decisions.
These launch events are just the beginning! Now that the patch program is live, Girl Scouts across the state can earn their Junior Financial Counselor Patch at home on their own, with their family, and with their troops.
Budgeting Workshop for Youth Homelessness Nonprofit in Boulder and Denver Locations
This summer, our dedicated staff members volunteered their time to teach two budgeting workshop for teens and young adults being served by our partner nonprofit organization, TGTHR to End Youth Homelessness.
These workshops were designed to equip young adults with crucial financial skills like budgeting, saving, and credit management, enabling them to take control of their futures. By teaching practical financial skills, our staff are not only empowering youth but also reinforcing our commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado STARS National Conference
Colorado Credit Union recently had the pleasure of participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado STARS National Conference as an event sponsor and workshop facilitator. The three-day conference brought teens from all over the state together to learn about self-awareness, healthy decision making, and serving their communities.
Colorado Credit Union staff volunteers led a budgeting workshop and career expo booth, where teens learned about healthy financial planning and various careers in financial services.
Our team had an amazing time learning from teens about their interests and aspirations.
TGTHR to End Youth Homelessness' Annual Community Health & Wellness Fair
Our staff volunteers participated in TGTHR to End Youth Homelessness' annual Community Health & Wellness Fair for the second consecutive year. At the event, youth and young adults experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity learned about a variety of trusted resources available in their community.
Colorado Credit Union represented the Financial Wellness community resource, where our staff provided attendees with financial literacy resources and addressed any questions attendees had throughout the event about their personal finances.
We are proud to support this incredible organization and their efforts to end youth homelessness.

Gardening Volunteer Day at The Boys & Girls Shopneck Club in Brighton
The Boys & Girls Shopneck Club in Brighton hosted a gardening volunteer day for community partners, where a few Colorado Credit Union staff volunteers worked alongside Club members to get their gardens ready for planting crops.
The Shopneck Club has big plans for their gardens this season. Club members plan to plant herbs, plants, and vegetables that can then be used in cooking classes with Shopneck Club members.
Thank you to our partners at The Shopneck Club!

Heartland Hero Ceremonies
Every year local 5th graders participate in the Heartland Hero Essay Contest sponsored by the Jason Dahl Foundation. Students are encouraged to write essays about what it means to be a hero and who is their hero and why. CCU is a proud sponsor of the contest and provides prizes for all students who enter the contest as well as the grand prizes for the essay winners.
This year, because of COVID-19, the award ceremonies look at bit different. The first award ceremony with Shaffer Elementary School students was held via Zoom. Several more ceremonies are taking place in the upcoming weeks. CCU's Brooke Thurlow serves on the board of the Foundation and is helping organize the school ceremonies.
More about the Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund: This foundation, located in Littleton, Colorado and run by CCU Board Member, is committed to keeping Jason's memory and dreams alive by working to provide scholarships for young people aspiring to enter the aviation profession.
